South Pacific was my first professional design and featured a cast of over 20 performers. Orchestration was straightforward with just two upright pianos, but helped provide an atmosphere to the show not commonly heard. The key to this show’s design was helping the audience feel the emotion that Cable and Emile were trying to convey through their broadcasts while still keeping the sound true to the time period.
