Billy Elliot was the final show in Weathervane Playhouse’s 2019 summer season. It featured the largest cast of the season of over 20 performers, and music was provided by backing tracks. The show is a celebration of defying the odds to be able to pursue one’s dreams in the face of adversity. This is explored through the struggle of Billy himself trying to become a ballet dancer and those around him as they struggle through the coal miners strike. The goal of the design was to keep the show’s sound dynamic to coincide with the moments of triumph the characters had in their battles, so that the really impactful music numbers really hit home in the audience.
